It is all about groupware these days, I guess.

Just look at all the hoopla around the Chandler project at the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF). OSAF is Mitch Kapor's baby, and his weblog is a good place to get some insight.

Jeff Schilling references spaces in his blog. I'd run across spaces too, somehow. (Perhaps from Diego Doval's weblog, Abort, Retry, Fail?) I'm looking forward to Jeff's promised follow up, as I have not been able to get spaces running under Java 1.4.1 on MacOS X. (I think I could probably fix it in a jiffy with the source. Alas, that isn't out, yet, and I've had trouble decompiling with mocha. I don't know whether the issue is mocha, Java 1.4, Java 1.4 on MacOS X, or just me.)

And then there is Zoe. Arguably less ambitious, Zoe is a browser-based e-mail reader (also written in Java, FWIW)/a search engine for all your e-mail/probably more. I haven't tried it out, yet, but I probably will soon.

What I think would really be cool is a search engine for your e-mail, your coworkers e-mail, your friends e-mail, etc. Particularly in a corporate environment, I feel like there is lots of information tied up in e-mail boxes. Much of that needn't be kept private. Maybe I'll expound on that later, but I welcome comments.
