Though Exchange is now a specific type of e-mail account in MacOS X Mail, I can't see much difference in Mail's handling of my Exchange e-mail in Panther vs. Jaguar, which just treated it as another IMAP server. One thing I just realized is that the one obvious difference between the IMAP and Exchange account types doesn't add value, IMO. In the Exchange account setup, you can specify the name of an Outlook Web Access (OWA) server. I had assumed that doing so would add something to my Mail experience. In fact, this is what Help says about it:
if you enter text in the Outlook Web Access Server field, Mail filters non-email related content from the server.
I had noticed that I wasn't getting meeting requests in my Exchange mailbox, and I think this explains why. It is a shame, because what I really wanted was for Mail to let me accept and respond to Outlook/Exchange meeting requests and put them into iCal. Instead, I don't get to see them at all. (Well, I should now because I've removed my OWA server setting.)
