I read Don's Stupid and Homophobic post in response to Joi's post on Ray Bradbury's Bizarre Complaint yesterday and was taken aback by his defense of homophobia by comparison to arachnophobia and the like. I found it hard to believe that he didn't realize how different their meanings were, but apparently that was the case. I had intended to try to correct that misunderstanding this morning, but Russ Beattie beat me to it. His comments were certainly stronger than mine would have been, so that is probably for the best.

I have to say that Don took it all rather well, and I liked his application of the Humpty Dumpty quote from Alice in Wonderland that was also used in the Orson Scott Card essay from Joi's post.

P.S. That Orson Scott Card essay was really weak. I hope to comment in more depth later, but suffice it to say that just as words have meanings so too do actions, and the fact that self-proclaimed "defenders of the family" are most strident in their stand against same-sex marriage rather than against no-fault divorce, adultery, deadbeat dads, or other social ills threatening the family speaks volumes. (Hmm, that was practically a post right there, and only two sentences.)
