Alexandria Can Do More For Its Kids

Virginia's school readiness indicators indicate that Alexandria is near the bottom with regard to preparing its kids so that they are able to maximize their elementary educations.

According to the School Readiness Indicators published under the auspices of the VA Dept. of Health and Human Resources, Alexandria's children entering Kindergarten rank in the lowest 10% compared to other localities in the State.  As measured by the PALS-K,  on the average 20% of the children state-wide require intervention upon entering Kindergarten.  In Alexandria, 30% of the children entering K need intervention.

We should be leading the State, not lagging it.  This is too important an issue to let pass.  We have an opportunity to do a better job.
