Adenine: A Metadata Programming Language. Adenine is used to program parts of MIT's Haystack information manager. It blends some elements of Lisp, Java, and Python quite nicely with native support for RDF graphs.

There's a longer document with some code examples; a large amount of Adenine code is included in the Haystack distribution.

Languages that run off a persistent free-form data store simply rock. [Lambda the Ultimate]

IBM Builds Bridge for DB2. IBM has developed a metadata product that will help enterprises that use a variety of third-party reporting tools access data from its DB2 database. [Technology News from eWEEK and Ziff Davis]

Here comes Cube Views.  This product is supposed to automate the creation of OLAP metadata at the database level.  I don't fully understand this product yet, but it sounds like automated cube creation for reporting tools.

This mapping could tie into some other San projects. For example, they might stand to make money from one plant they consume, if the world buys into Hoodia cactus. At the same time, the population is gearing up to encourage ecotourism.

Preview of Java 1.5. An early access prototype implementation of the proposed new J2SE 1.5 language features is available. The prototype includes generics (JSR 14), typesafe enums, varargs, autoboxing, foreach loops, and static import (JSR 201). In other words, all the new language features planned for 1.5 except metadata (JSR 175). Many of the new features have been previously discussed here. Now we can finally play with them.
