Yesterday I saw there was a QuickTime update available via software update on my Mac. Well, I thought, that's a good idea. I downloaded it. But soon I realised that it was not really an update for my QuickTime 6 Pro but a downright downgrade. My QT6 Pro allowed me to save and download movies. QT7 had removed these possibilities and only if I upgraded to QT7 Pro for Euro 29.99 could I get them back. I still haven't found the page where they warn people about this. Apple shouldn't have made this downgrade available in Software Update.
Moreover, the dollar price is 29.95, which means Europeans are paying too much. And there is still no possibility to buy it somewhere else with dollars.
If you upgrade to QT7 and add a copy of QT6 from an other drive (change its name first), you seem to be able to convert movies to H.264, but what is the use of this, if you can't download any movies or sound files any longer?
Will they soon come with an extra QT7 MPEG-2 playback component for Euro 19.99? Ridiculous! You don't need it, and you don't need QT7.
People who bought QT6 Pro three months ago don't even get a rebate on the QT7 Pro!
In case you want to revert to QT6, here is the reinstaller. I don't know if there is a reinstaller for OS X Tiger.
Remember that when you upgrade your system to OS X Tiger, you will also lose your QT Pro. So ad $30 to the $129 for Tiger and $20 for MPEG-2. Each year (or two years) with each update of QT you will have to pay for the same you already had.
You can stuff your Tiger, Steve.
