NewStatesman: "The neoliberal world economy is in crisis: inflation rising, banks collapsing, the financial system in turmoil. What was the cause? And is there a cure?"

Well, there is a Plan to Revive the American Economy.
"In this pivotal and potentially historic year, Americans are looking for a new direction in economic policy. Beset by job insecurity, wage stagnation and escalating costs, they are ready for fundamental change to restore security and opportunity for their families - to realize the promise of the American Dream. With this plan, the Economic Policy Institute answers that call with a series of innovative solutions to the most pressing economic problems of the day - from a realistic universal health care program to competitiveness policies that will return the United States to the position of global leadership it enjoyed for much of the last century. The Agenda for Shared Prosperity is designed to usher in a new era of economic growth in which all Americans share in the gains."

I am not so sure about the US position of global leadership. That is exactly the problem with the global economy. Let America take care of its own citizens. We'll manage our own economy, thank you. The plan only talks about reviving the American economy and at the same time talks about the global US leadership. It's a bit weird. So is reviving the global economy of no concern to Americans? I don't think they care very much.

CatoatLiberty: "Just north of D.C., in the small suburb of Berwyn Heights, a county SWAT team raided a house last week after a shipping service delivered a large quantity of illegal drugs to the front door.
The house is home to Berwyn Heights mayor Cheye Calvo and his wife Trinity Tomsic, and their two black Labs. Though the package containing more than 30 lbs. of marijuana was addressed to Tomsic, the couple may have had nothing to do with the drugs. In recent months there have been incidents in which large quantities of drugs were shipped to homes in the D.C. area, where they were then supposed to be intercepted by drug dealers - all without the package addressees' knowledge or involvement. Calvo and Tomsic may have been caught up in just such a scheme."

OpenDemocracy: "On Sunday 12 November 2006, South Ossetians went to the polls to vote in a referendum confirming the region's independence from Georgia. The result was an overwhelming 'yes' to independence, with a turnout above 95% from those among the territory's 70,000 people who were eligible to vote. There was a similar vote in favour of a new term for South Ossetia's president, Eduard Kokoity. Neither outcome came as a surprise, but the chances are that nobody in the international community will take the slightest bit of notice of the results."

When Georgia wanted to become independent from Russia, they were granted independence without much ado. Now that a region of Georgia has declared its independence with a huge majority, Georgian president Saakashvili does not want to recognize the choice of the people. It's hypcrisy all over. Whenever it suits them they pull the freedom card, and when the same applies to other groups it's a no-go.
It seems Saakashvili has invaded South Ossetia, met with severe resistance, killed thousands of Ossetian civilians, then Russia decided to protect the Russian civilians living there. Russia has all the right in the world to protect Russian citizens. Saakashvili has shown himself to belong to the race of dictators who don't mind killing a few thousand civilians. This is again the result of the Bush regime's push for destabilization in the region. And Saakashvili is a willing executioner. He has invaded the capital of South Ossetia in the most beastly way.

Independent: "Georgia launched a major military offensive today to retake the breakaway province of South Ossetia. Rebel leaders said about 1,400 had been killed.
The offensive prompted Moscow to send tanks into the region in a furious response that threatens to engulf Georgia, a staunch US ally, and Russia in all-out war.
It was by far the worst outbreak of hostilities since the province won de-facto independence in a war against Georgia that ended in 1992. Witnesses said the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali was devastated.

The fighting broke out as much of the world's attention was focused on the start of the Olympic Games and many leaders, including Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush, were on their way to Beijing.
The timing suggests Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili may have been counting on surprise to fulfill his longtime pledge to wrest back control of South Ossetia - a key to his hold on power.
Putin has warned that the Georgian attack will draw retaliation and the Defense Ministry pledged to protect South Ossetians, most of whom have Russian citizenship.

Yakobashvili said that one Russian plane had dropped a bomb on the Vaziani military base near the Georgian capital, but no one was hurt.
More than 1,000 US Marines and soldiers were at the base last month to teach combat skills to Georgian troops. Georgia has about 2,000 troops in Iraq, making it the third-largest contributor to coalition forces after the US and Britain."

It is clear Saakashvili is lying and he is the one who first invaded South Ossetia and started bombing the civilian population of its capital Tskhinvali.

Again NATO has proved it is completely useless in keeping peace and only serves to promote and incite war, hatred and violence. They should have made it clear to Saakashvili that an attack on civilians and a military invasion of the region were out of the question.

Lycos: "The Russian army said Saturday it had taken the South Ossetian capital after sending in tanks and troops to fight off a Georgian offensive aimed at winning back the breakaway province."
