Writing off 100% of debts owed to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund by some of the poorest countries could be the beginning of a change for the better. However, why should we trust the World Bank? Only countries that are committed to the capitalist way of life will benefit. This is a form of blackmail. Western capitalist corporations will remain the main beneficiaries, of course.
And providing new loans that will have to be repaid will just start the game again. Moreover, 'aid' has a tendency to flow back to the givers.
Observer: "Consultants are creaming off a staggering $20 billion from hard-won global aid budgets. The $20bn total is 40 per cent of the international communities' overseas development pot of $50bn - money that is meant to relieve poverty in developing countries."
I am anxious to know where the loopholes will be, where the tricks will be played to make this whole propaganda offensive (or diversion scheme?) a farce. First see, then believe.
