UNISON: "An overwhelming 89% of the public agree that 'public services should be run by the government or local authorities, rather than by private companies', according to a YouGov poll released by UNISON at the start of its annual conference.
A second question resulted in more than 87% of the public saying no to public services such as NHS hospitals and schools being run by private companies for profit - an increase of 4% from 2001.
Investment in our public services is being diverted into the pockets of private companies while our hospitals are facing financial deficits and the threat of closure."
