Friday - Here and There, Again
Four Things of Note
One: Management Brown Bag Lunch was held on Thursday. There was significant participation. Pete Kruckenberg invited Kevin Taylor to attend and share his perspective on how US West built the frame relay network and CVDS in the early 1990s. It was a good discussion. UENs main video and data backbone is built on the CVDS infrastructure and the fiber that was placed to make support this network.
Pete spent a few minutes tying ideas together. We are moving forward with our GIgabit Ethernet and Peering projects in much the same way. UEN will be instrumental in moving the vendors forward in network technology. It will work only if there is a cooperative venture. Education will benefit from these advancements, as will local businessess and other State Agencies. Classic win/win situation.
Two: The UEN Steering Committee meeting was held today. Vicky Dahn, USOE and 10 year Steering Committee participant, resigned. Vicky has been instrumental in promoting technology throughout Public Education in Utah. She is a particularly beloved friend to the rural districts. Her input will be missed. I wish her well in future endeavors.
Also, I spoke with David Eisler after the meeting. I thanked him again for hosting me last Thursday at the WSU Davis Campus. The truly great thing about steering committee is spending time with so many accomplished people. The problem is how nervous it makes me and how much time I spend preparing. Oh, well. Every good thing has some negative.
Three: I met with Cisco today to discuss the 6500 platform. Many thoughts. I'll blog on this next Tuesday. It will take me a while to really absorb the full impact of the information that was shared in this forum.
Four: My best fishing buddy, Mikey Taylor, is in town for the weekend. We spent a few hours planning a fishing trip for tomorrow. A nice way to end the work week. Mikey's visit has gotten me thinking about some of our best fishing adventures. More on that in tomorrow's blog.
I look forward to a fun weekend and hope to be refreshed and ready to face technology reality on Monday.
That's all for now..........
