" People who maintain blogs can post from any place with an access to the Web, but most of them choose to do it from a specific spot, often found in their home. I have always had a fascination with the way people tend to personalize their computing environment and when I read a blog, I like to imagine the surroundings of the writer. Out of fun and sheer curiosity, I have decided to gather photos of bloggers' favorite spots. "

I thought this was an interesting artistic endeavor and one worth sharing.

"Plusieurs des textes de ce répertoire datent de plus de 5 ans... du début du boum de l'internet. On y parle allègrement des agents intelligents qui devaient s'instruire graduellement de nos manières et nos choix afin de nous aider à trouver, filtrer l'information pertinente..."

many of the tests from 5 years ago<the beginning of the Internet boom> talked about intelligent agents that would slowly learn our habits and our likes in order to help us filter relevant information"

"Les seuls agents intelligents que je reconnaisse, ce sont les humains ! Les agents intelligents ne sont jamais arrivés... Les machines ont poursuivi leur montée en puissance et vitesse de traitement mais c'est en reconnaissant aux humains l'intelligence du jugement que Google s'est taillé la part du lion parmi les moteurs de recherche et référenceurs."

The only intelligent agents that I find, are the humans!  The intelligent agents never came.  The machines have gotten faster and faster but it is human discernment that helps the judgment of google filter through the lions share of information.

I think this is a very accurate and astute observation.

Music Industry Braces for a Shift. The record business is bracing for a seismic shift and is increasingly reconciled to the fact that the current priorities of senior executives are outmoded. By Laura M. Holson and Geraldine Fabrikant. [New York Times: Business]

Wow.  I don't know where to start with this one.  The music industry does need a radical shift.  I agree on that point 100%.   The problem is that all the shifts that this article discussed would be disasters(imho).  For example

"many analysts and industry executives say they believe that further global consolidation is necessary — perhaps trimming the number of major recording companies to three from five"

I don't think that such oligopoly power is going to help the industry and it certainly is not good for innovation..

"The revenues today can't support such a broad number of releases," said Michael Wolff, a media specialist at McKinsey & Company. "We are likely to see the big recording companies focus their bets more."

This means more music formulaic "pop" such as Brittany spears, and boy bands.  Set formulas that they know will sell.  The looser is once again musical innovation.  Despite this consolidation, the music industry still does address the cancer will slowly lead to their demise... their own irrelevance.

Well, I am taking a brief respite from the book of Job.  Today, I meditated on Proverbs chapter 12.  I always find the proverbs refreshing and they always contain some wonderful nuggets that I try to think about throughout the day.  Here are a few that struck me this morning.

4A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his house

I am amazingly blessed to be married to my wife.  She is a constant inspiration to me.  Marrying her was the best thing I ever did.

14 From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his han ds rewards him.

18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing

I often challenge the students in my youth ministry to have "fresh water"<encouragement, positive, truth etc>  and not "salt water"<mean, negative, foul, lies etc> flow from there mouths.  The fresh water v salt water analogy comes from this passage in James.  These proverbs verses talk about the "fruit" or positive blessings that comes from fresh water and the harm that comes from salt water.  So often we don't realize how powerful our tongue can be either as tool for building people up or a dangerous weapon that can injure<whether the harm was intentional or accidental>.
