Today I read, Mark 2: 1-11. The story tells of Jesus healing a paralyzed man. This is the one where the friends of the paralyzed man brought their friend to be healed but because they could not get him through the crowed, they opened a whole in the roof of the home where Jesus was speaking and lowered the man to Jesus. Jesus both forgave the man of his sins and healed him physically.
I am a youth minister and I am about to go on a retreat with about 375 of our kids. This story really hit home this morning because I see so many of the people that are signed up to go on this trip that are similar to the paralyzed man. Maybe they are not paralyzed but they surly are broken. We have kids going whose parents have all but abandoned them. We had kids whose families are about to be torn apart through divorce. We also have kids that are running with the wrong crowed and getting in to all of the wrong stuff<drugs, getting arrested, you name it>.
The reason why I mention this is because the reason why many of these hurting kids are coming is that they have been brought by friends. Just like the paralyzed man who needed to be physically taken to Jesus<by any means necessary, even if it meant the destruction of the guys roof>, so too many of these kids needed the help of their friends drag them to a retreat where they will hear the story and message of Jesus Christ.
My prayer is that these hurting kids will find healing this weekend. That they would find hope, peace, and most of all that they would get to really meet with Jesus face to face this weekend and start a relationship with Him.
