Something is definitely up with Radio: My news feed has only Adam Curry on it, nobody else. Plus my home page is down for me, wonder if for anyone else? We found ourselves a new place, otherwise known as HQ for my new project. I'm looking at doing the cable modem thing, with a wireless access point of course. I'll do a listing in the local wireless directory, with a note "don't just sit out there in your car, come in for a cup of joe." Of course as I write I am sitting out in my car cuz my ISP is still bubkus. Lots of distractions in the works: I should write about that! So no progress so far on the open questions on the design of my project: 1) I need a contact with someone at a service provider company. Tmobile, verizon, cingular, that sort of thing. I have names, numbers, messages, what to offer in order to get them to pick up? Maybe I should call from a friend's office at Microsoft. 2) SMS is limited to 256 bytes. Uncompressed that stinks. Compressed it could be tolerable for a postage stamp size photo and some text and potential responses. But how it would work is that locally, on the device, an app I would write would listen for a certain sender and then unpack the message, rendering it in its own interface. Sonds complex, but what if the app itself could be delivered via SMS initially (hmmmmm). Languages involved are Java and direct windows api for PocketPC. C++ for Palm and Symbian. 3) I need a box with a real internet connection that can send out e-mail from a domain. Serious stuff, a web server, etc. I plan to work with open source (Apache, Linux) until I'm compelled not to. The reason is so I don't have to be so paranoid about security. As much love as I have for MS, that's just too many patches for me, I could never keep up. comment []7:44:03 AM ![]() |
