I broke the rules and started mailing folks directly off of Sms newsgoups. One person gave me the lead to look into SmsGate by Netwin. In that case, all I would need to do to start working on my project would be a unix box that sends regular smtp mail. One gotcha is I might have to have service accounts on all major providers in order to use their gateway. Also – don’t really know what this gateway does for me that I can’t do myself, I mean, smtp isn’t that hard. Still, great to get a response from people.

Who I haven’t got a response from is any contact at a service provider developer program yet. This would be a key contact for fleshing out deployment issues.

On another note, I am suddenly getting "activex installer" windows opening up on my maching, concurrent with dialog boxes asking me to make x<something>z my home page, AND a visible x<something>z system tray icon. Appears to be a time delay virus. I assume my machine will now self destruct. Oh well
