Due to my running IIS for development work, I have virus protection installed. I don’t think I should have to pay for virus protection any more than I pay for email. So I have a 30 day trial of MacAffee installed on my system. After 10 blissful days of silence, it has started to remind me to purchase the product. A lot. I get four reminders per trigger, each saying the same thing. A trigger can be coming out of hibernation or booting, or going online. This reminder system must have been more work to program than the product itself! Lest I sound like a crabapple, I had two revelations today. One was AppForge, which for a paltry $899 will let me compile onto PPC, Palm and Symbian easy as pie, with only the AppForge enabler needing to be installed on the client system. The following architecture decisions make me still want to go it alone: 1) COST boy is that a lot of money for a plug-in 2) DEPLOYMENT so why would I want to avoid the compact framework, which although new is at least supported by a company with a test budget, and instead want to go with a third party? 3) STREAMLINE anytime you use some sort of uber-app you end up putting up with reams of extra code, and not knowing what the heck is really going on. Imagine being able to verify a bug but not fix it. Where are you then? My Windows API programming book arrived today. It was too heavy to carry home in my backpack, I’ll have to wait till I get the car -- comment []7:17:38 PM ![]() |
