Why I might consider using this platform: 1) It has a book written to document the development process, which fits with how I learn. Ordinary SMS development (whatever that means) has no book.  Here is the book I'm talking about 2) Once built, I would be able to do fancier things like micropayments much more easily.

Questions I have to answer either way: 1) Do I need a server? 2) How does my server / code interact with the phone system (SMSC in this diagram) 3) What really is a bare bones way of doing development - can I compare the two before going feetfirst into something this fullblown? 4) Where does client side development fit into this: operating system, java, appforge, metrowerks.
