(shannon) I am so late for the party! My daughter is studying Greek tragedy with a professor who is deeply immersed in, and inspired by, his topic. She has been touched by his enthusiasm, charged by the sweep of the magic wand of fundamental human culture.
And I in turn am feeling the excitement of a "new" but old -as- time idea. I have never, until now, been exposed to Greek tragedy, but am understanding why it endures. It's bold, it's high drama, it's extreme and over the top; it's everything we want in our entertainment, and yet it is infused with our genetic code, our desire to communicate, to share experience, to understand, to be known, to be seen, to advance. It really is the foundation for what I do, songwriting. It's my missing link, the thing I didn't know that I didn't know. I'm wondering how it will affect my writing, and am certain it will. So I might be late for the party, but I'm on my way~
thanks to you Hilary!
