Hesiod provided a link to this Newsday story which provides a photograph and a short description of each American soldier who has died in Iraq thus far.

It is articles like this that will have the most impact on the general public. That people die is inevitable, and therefore not moving enough. That Americans continue to die every day -- and for what? -- that will make the shift happen. Public opinion will really begin to shift when pictures are attached.

Each photo is a relative who'll never sit at the family dinner table again. Each photo is a friend who'll no longer answer a phone call to go for a beer. Each photo is a reminder that parents have outlived their children. Each photo is a reminder of an empty space in the connected lives of our country--friends, family, neighbors are left with an empty ache. Each photo is a picture of a person willing to give their life for their country, but rather ended up dying for the greed and selfishness of our oligarchy.
