I received my first whitelist email response today ("I've never received email from you before. Please click Reply if you are a real person who wants to send me email") . It struck me that fake whitelist emails (they would probably include the line "this is a whitelist email") would be a clever way for spammers to elicit a response (which they prize, because then they know they have a real, live email address to spam in the future).
