One of my heroes, Denis Dutton of Arts & Letters Daily fame, is disparaging the filmed work of another, J. R. R. Tolkien (its not clear how he feels about the book version). I totally agree with everything Dutton says in general about special effects, just not including Lord of the Rings in the generalization; in fact, I believe it is just the opposite!

Why do sites even offer un-encrypted logins? Is there a reason other than performance? What a big, fat, gaping security hole. If there HAS to be some reason (some compatibility consideration) for un-encrypted login, it should NOT be the default!
