I'm starting to see sites that have links that say "Click here if the pop-up window has not opened". Definitely a step in the right direction. Maybe the next step will be to quit even trying to use pop-ups?

Michelin's Tweel is such an interesting idea (we're talking tires, here, where significant innovations are very few and far between)! I definitely guess it has a future, though who knows how far off.
