trackback []

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg has an exquisite chance at a Reagan-like moment of truth. The NYC transit workers are on strike, illegally. Just as Ronald Reagan fired the striking PATCO air-traffic controllers who ignored his demand they return to work, so should Bloomberg fire the striking transit workers.

Sadly, we are talking about New York City, so what will more likely happen is: there will be a settlement that gives the union much of what it wants, nobody will go to jail for more than a few nights, no illegal strikers will lose their jobs, and the $1,000,000 per day fines will be forgiven.

PS Unsurprisingly, I am not the only person who thought of this parallel. The WSJ has a (payware) article What Would Reagan Do?
