I'm off for the Weekend to Mecon in Belfast. This year's Guests of Honour are Peter Hamilton, one of my favourite writers, and Paul J. Holden. The usual suspects will probably be there as well including Ian McDonald. Report and pics (maybe) later.

Here's an interesting story. It seems Chase Masterson, who played Leeta in Star Trek Deep Space Nine, is suing an online matchmaking service after somone posted accurate details including her address with alleged lies. While the judge threw out the case based on US libel tradition that celebrities can't really sue for libel, he did say that the service provider was not covered by the legislation that protects service providers from being responsible for third party content (if I understand the story correctly). "It seems the rumors of Safari supporting tabbed browsing are true. Mac Merc got hold of a beta and has posted screenshots. Safari Beta 64 With Screenshots. We got ahold of Safari Beta V64 and thought you might be interested. Tabs have been kept and have a neat status widget (actually a standard one too). The beta appears to be much more solid as well. The other main difference is the introduction of auto fill.

Ericsson to build 'hot spots' across U.K.. The telecommunications equipment maker plans to create 5,000 public Wi-Fi hot spots across the United Kingdom for wireless Internet access. [CNET News.com]
