The news programs - RTE and Newstalk - are carying a story that some guy called Mickey Joe Harte has been refused entry to the US. Harte, a minor celebrity who apparently represented Ireland in the Eurovision song contest, was en-route to New York to appear in a charity gig. INS officials declined to let him board his plane at Shannon on the grounds that he's a crap entertainerhis visa wasn't in order. While I sympathise with him - after all it happened to me as well - I can't understand why this is newsworthy.

Update:Today's (Thursday's) Indo reports that Government ministers are 'working behind the scenes' to get him to America. Have they nothing better to do, like sort out the Health Service or the economy?
