Beijing Launches First English Web Site. The Chinese capital is revealing itself to the world - online and in English. Beijing's municipal government launched an English Web site Wednesday aimed at foreigners. The subjects, predictably: investment, tourism, work, study and life in the city. 700,000 students have joined the Communist Party in the first half of the year. Nearly 8 % of all college students are card-carrying Party members. Among the graduate students, it is 30 %. Young people take pride in the recent national achievements and clamor to join the Party. We pray specially for the faith and witness of Christian students, a very small minority on campus.

CHINESE CHRISTIAN WOMAN BEATEN TO DEATH BY POLICE: GROUP (RFA) 

Police in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong have beaten to death a member of an unofficial Christian church after her family refused to pay bribes for her release, RFA's Mandarin service reports.
