In Waikiki there's a Japanese restaurant called Okonomiyaki Chibo ... and guess what they serve. That's right folks, you guessed it Okonomiyaki. For the people who don't know what this is .. it's like pancake, but with vegetables and meat/seafood. I know it doesn't sound good and I won't be getting a job as a creative writer for menus .. but trust me It's ONO (delicious in Pidgin English).
Anyway .. Okonomiyaki's are super expensive at Chibo. This is one item that's expensive in the U.S. (Yes, Hawaii is a state), but cheap over here in Japan. If I remember correctly it was $10 to $15 bucks. We paid 600 yen in Tokyo, which is around $5. I think one of the reasons why it's soo expensive at Chibo is because they got these cooks (Chefs?) that make it for you. Over here you usually mix and cook it yourself. One thing that I can't figure out is why would a Japanese tourist pay for an overpriced Okonomiyaki .. I would think it's like a Mexican person paying for an expensive Taco. Chibo is usually packed with Japanese tourists!?! Go figure...
Photos of before and after. The middle one is of the condiments like KyuPee (Mayonaise), and AoNori (Seaweed)
