Coincidence? Perhaps, but when I learned that Lowly coot can count [Science Blog] I had to do a double take.... you see, last evening I was surfing for references to "raven banner" - not just e-googling, but to actually purchase a flag . And I found one similar to my masthead logo at Flag Emproium but it was way too expensive. However, I also ran across this site, a generic bit on ravens, where I learned that they can count! Perhaps one as learned in Norse lore as I should've known this, but then to run into the counting coots .... perhaps something is telling me I need to practice!

Most of the really stupid academic studies I've run across involve "drugs" of some sort (including cigarettes and alcohol). Every once in a while you get a sex study that's pretty "eye-opening". But never, in my wildest imagination, did I imagine I'd see a "scientific" study that postulated a nuclear threat from North Korea because of "Las Veagas style" gambling and casinos!

Perhaps the author of this study should use his next Federal grant to get a life. Or maybe this started out aas a drug study, but after he'd smoked the experiments, this was all he could write about ....
