HANDHELDS

Another Aha! Moment from a Treo Doctor

I received an email from Dr. Godfrey P. Oakley, Jr. MD, MSPM. He talked about the convenience of using the Treo for keeping in communication while attending a symphony. He writes: "Got an e mail on the way to symphony--my  wife driving.  Some one asked me a question about  something I could not remember.  Got to symphony, sat in seat- did Google search on Treo and sent answer.  Worked like a charm." He mentioned that he would be checking back to my blog and web site to watch the progress of the Treo.

The New Treo 600

A flurry of activity began when I received an email from Handspring stating that they would be giving their  users a sneak peak of the new Treo 600. I immediately went to TreoCentral.com and found out that a demonstration would be given at the CeBIT expo at the Javits Center in Manhattan. It was just a matter of taking the ferry and the subway, with a short walk to the center. I found the impromptu booth set up by Handspring, and found Brian Jacquet finishing up a conversation on his 600. I took several digital photos of the 600 side-by-side with my 300 to compare the brightness of the screens, found a hot spot, loaded the photos onto my laptop, edited them in Fireworks, created a new web page and added the photos courtesy of Dreamweaver. I uploaded this new page to my web site, and posted a notice on the Treo Central discussion board that these photos were now available for viewing, all less than an hour after I hit the Javits Center.

During the keynote by David Nagel, CEO of Palmsource, I similarly took photos and posted the story on my web site. You have to imagine that very soon creating live reports like this for a web site or a blog, could be accomplished with a camera/smartphone such as the Treo 600.

Radiology Application for the Palm OS

While at CeBIT, I ran across an old friend, Dr. Michael Tobin, a radiologist and besides being a dedicated Amiga devotee, also is developing apps for his practice. Per his request, I'm keeping tight-lipped, but I'm hoping to generate some interest, and we'll see how far this goes. When I mentioned blogging, he reminded me about his e-group which he had started years back to discuss interesting rads cases.
