BROADBAND/WIRELESS

Australia Makes IT Work

Got a mention from Ronni the VJ, in Sydney, AU, last night. Great rock videos at the basement. Live video streaming at 400 kbps, and 14 hours ahead. Truly amazing. If you can imagine, better video streaming than from any site in the U.S. This is all provided by Telstra, the local telco. The call it BigPond Broadband. I also saw the ads for their CDMA network.

There's quite a commitment to medical wireless in Australia, especially in use of handhelds for clinical use. "Medical staff at a Victorian hospital who have trialed the service to access X-Rays, radiology, patient history and diagnosis via a wireless laptop or personal digital assistant (PDA) said they found they could save up to one hour per day" [from Mobile Tech News]
