CLINICAL WIRELESS

The Association for Pathology Informatics

I had to chance to speak some of the officers of this organization about the future of Pathology Informatics. Certainly, in the realm of hospital information systems and clinical laboratory data/information, Clinical Pathology deservedly can claim this domain. Besides reporting laboratory results, information for clinical decision support, e.g., therapeutic drug monitoring, needs to available to clinicians on a point-of-care basis.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Partnership Report Finds Nation Unprepared for Bioterror Attack

“Of all the steps we as a nation must take to protect ourselves from bioterror, a primary antidote is an outstanding and expert federal workforce,” said Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service.  “We need a Manhattan Project-like commitment to our biodefense, seeking out and cultivating the best minds in science and medicine to ensure America's safety.”

While this report concentrates on the deficiency of medical professionals in the federal workforce, the issue of communication networks remains a viable solution to augment preparedness. Whether through the use of 1x or 802.11 technologies, many possibilities exist to train and provide support for first responders at all levels.
