Microsoft Consults for WellPoint in Promoting Medical Wireless Services

This $40 million deal is not the first story of this kind, but they are using Dell's Axim X3i as the handheld of choice for providing mobile wireless services. It's a very plain but functional PPC device that has a removable battery (950 mAh upgradable to 1800), and works very well in connecting to AP's in my personal testing. Certainly, it has the best price point, and you can probably pick one up now for less than $280, not to mention the institutional discounts that would be available.

Just to be clear, we're only talking about 802.11b, here. The smartphones that will include Wi-Fi are on their way, though.
