My girlfriend and I have been dating about five months. She swears that I’m the only guy she’s ever been with, but last week we had sex for the first time and, nothing. I didn’t feel her cherry pop, she didn’t bleed, nothing. I’m wondering, could she really have been a virgin, or was she lying to me? Your friend, is a moron. Your girlfriend, if you care about her as much as you seem to care about whether or not she  was really a virgin, doesn’t necessarily deserve the third degree. A woman’s “cherry” is just a popular term for her hymen, which is not a reliable means of determining whether or not she has or has not engaged in sex before. The hymen is merely tissue, and as such can both be stretched, or torn.
This can be the result of the use of a tampon, a dildo or vibrator, her own fingers, etc. Is she athletic?
Evidence shows that it's possible to tear the hymen during non-sexual activities such as horseback riding. Has she ever undergone a complete gynecological examination? That, too, could be a reason why her hymen wasn’t intact for the popping you expected.
And, of course, there is the possibility that she’s engaged in sexual relations with penetration before. If you and your girlfriend have a good relationship, there can be dozens of reasons that your first time having sex was barrier-free.
Trust her when she says she was a virgin. There’s no other way of telling (unless she tells you otherwise) so don’t sweat it. And find some new friends while you’re at it.
