"Conversation. What is it? A Mystery! It's the art of never seeming bored, of touching everything with interest, of pleasing with trifles, of being fascinating with nothing at all. How do we define this lively darting about with words, of hitting them back and forth, this sort of brief smile of ideas which should be conversation?" Guy de Maupassant

Enhancing life

I was talking to Rob Paterson on Skype last evening.  I always love talking to Rob because he is just so alive and so human.  And there is something so wonderfully refreshing about that.

We talked about many things - his most elegant articulation of the Utility of Blogging, we shared some excitement about the time being right to move from just talking about how communities built around social technologies can and will communicate and collaborate better, into how we could actually work together in groups to make this happen, he told me about some wonderful projects he's working on with the community at PEI, urged me to read Christpher Alexander's thoughts, I shared with him some of my experiences working on the Tsunamihelp blog and my excitement about Yi-Tan.

In every breath of this conversation was the affirmation of feeling more alive and more human !  And that blogging is an activity that enhances life.

And then he shared with me the sea of emotion on PEI at the loss of young Chris Driscoll, and how its made so many realise that life is there to be lived.

"Don't strew me with roses after I'm dead.
When Death claims the light of my brow
No flowers of life will cheer me: instead
You may give me my roses now!"
