"Conversation. What is it? A Mystery! It's the art of never seeming bored, of touching everything with interest, of pleasing with trifles, of being fascinating with nothing at all. How do we define this lively darting about with words, of hitting them back and forth, this sort of brief smile of ideas which should be conversation?" Guy de Maupassant

BlogHer Miss

After two days of not knowing, it's final now - I will have to skip BlogHer as all flights cancelled tonight too.  I did manage to squeeze in a confirmation this afternoon, and they were hopeful and I was excited ... but around 5 this evening, I was told no flights will take off. Oh well. Am sure it's going to be loads of fun ... i'll look out for blogs and pics for sure!

Still, I'm fortunate we're all safe and haven't been in much trouble.  Sometimes I forget we still live in the developing world.  There has been so much devastation in my city with more than 400 dead now.  Coupled with the major fire at Bombay High.  It is sad.

Some people are angry.  Others smile and look up to the sky.  We are resilient, as is the nature of this city, as we go about our work today, chanting 'we can beat this too'.   A passage from Invisible Cities which can be read at many levels :

"It is not the voice that commands the story ... it is the ear.  At times I feel your voice is reaching me, from far away, while I am prisoner of a gaudy and unlivable present, where all forms of human society have reached an extreme of their cycle. Knows no imagining what new forms they may assume. And I hear from your voice, invisible reasons which make cities live, through which perhaps, once dead, they will come to life"
