Online translators - don't you just love 'em?

This, from today's Football365, is hysterical:

We were anxious to discover why Everton's Thomas Gravesen was dangling his manhood over the head of Charlton's Claus Jensen in this photograph taken from BT newspaper in Denmark.

Thankfully, an online translator helped us to understand:

"He had difficult known that dy themselves Thomas Excavate. Landsholdskollegaen , the calm and smiling Claus Jensen poserede to glory by B.T.s photographer Nils Meilvang at træningsbanen to Proceed.

"A portrait , there should is used to a port from Claus Jensen , where he implied relaxed at græsplænen. However it was by extensive a temptation by Excavate , he walked softly themselves in by the intetanende holdkammerat , drew the trousers aside and displayed his noble parties forth.

"Innocent mandehumor and a usual joke amid fodboldspillere. However catching that occurs to DBU - region and a single rumænsk photographer aback shoot away , so can be that develop.

"The pictures to the rumænske sportsavis »Prosport« vil presumably do Thomas Excavate to a yet better pronounced image – at both good and evil – to they coming days."

So that's clear, then.

Iraqi Republic Radio 28th March 2003

A 7-minute audio clip of harangues interspersed with patriotic songs and many ID's can be heard on the Interval Signals Archive website at http://www.intervalsignals.net (follow the IRAQ link in the left-hand column). Recorded off-air from 6175 kHz at 0615 28th March 2003, the audio quality gradually improves, so stick with it!

Regards,

Dave Kernick

NB: If you read this before 2200 UTC you would have seen a different frequency mentioned. 6175 is the correct one. (Andy)

Just in from Tarek in Egypt:

"19.00 UTC I picked the Iraqi Republic Radio - the voice of the Iraqi people with the news and ID on a new frequency, 4785kHz first time to hear it on this freq. used to hear it mainly on 11710 and 9570...if I'm not wrong...still remember when this station started in 1991 they used to play only songs for 2 hours no IDs at all I was really confused about this one till they came up with this confusing ID..Idhaat algomhuriya al Iraqiya - sout al shaab aliraqi. around that time the ID of the official Baghdad radio was the same..till baghdad changed it's ID to Idhaat jomhuriyat AL IRAQ. it may not catch your ears the difference but around that time.... it was really REALLY confusing."

The Amsterdam Forum on Iraq

This weekend's Amsterdam Forum from Radio Netherlands features four Radio Netherlands journalists responding to E-mails from our listeners about the Iraq war, and next week we will be focusing on the views of the Iraqis themselves, with guests from the Iraqi community in The Netherlands (some 41,000) who have very different views. For more details and broadcast times, visit the Amsterdam Forum page on our Web site.

Mediumwave station in Umm Qasr

British forces have also started up a mediumwave radio station broadcasting from Umm Qasr, according to a Reuters report quoted by BBC Monitoring. Tarek Zeidan asked me if I know what the frequency is. News agencies rarely consider that sort of information important enough to mention :-( I don't, but if anyone reading this finds out, please post a reply to this message.

Information Radio on 4500 kHz

Thanks to Tarek Zeidan in Cairo, who has found a new frequency for US-operated Information Radio. 4500 kHz is coming in well here in The Netherlands. By chance I was still at the office when Tarek's E-mail arrived, so I was able to record and encode a 2 minute segment. You'll find a link to the audio at the bottom of this page:
