Flash of thoughtlessness
Can I please make an appeal to any Web designers reading this. I am on permanent medication for an epileptic condition. It is well known that flashing lights can aggravate the symptoms. But recently I've noticed a new and worrying trend - not content with ads popping up all over the place, some of them are now using flashing bright coloured backgrounds. The US green card is one of the offenders. Can I please ask anyone designing pages for the Web *not* to use flashing coloured backgrounds. I have suffered headaches and discomfort when being confronted with a page that I need to read, but containing an ad that flashes rapidly and can't be turned off. Of course, I know I can turn off all animations in the browser, but I don't see why I should have to. 99% don't cause my any discomfort - just the ones with bright, garish flashing colours. And, sadly, this seems to be becoming a trend. Please, Web designers, DON'T DO IT!!
