RFID Network Appliances

In my opinion, the proliferation of RFID-enabled systems will drive demand for a new type of network appliance designed to collect information from groups of RFID readers.  Such appliances will filter, aggregate, enhance, translate and route information to more centralized applications and repositories.  Last May, I wrote a white paper outlining the role of such appliances in highly distributed RFID-driven networks.

At least two RFID reader manufacturers have developed devices with some of these capabilities.  SAMSys has their concentrator and Matrics has the Matrics Visibility Manager.  Now a new startup, Blue Vector Systems has joined the fray with their RFID Router and RFID Network Management Appliance.
