What Are Search Engines Looking For?
Content!
Search engine spiders are "taught" to crawl from link to link, reading all of the text in between. The key to that phrase is "text." The spiders eat up text like its going out of style, and have trouble reading other stuff like flash and javascript. The search engine spiders' love for text explains why sites with mostly flash content are always ranked much lower than simple little sites packed full of good old fashioned text copy.
If your site is having trouble getting high rankings in the search engines the first thing you need to do is add more copy to your site. Yes, you have to write! Take the time to really write good descriptions of your products. How will the customer benefit from your product? Don't just talk about the features of the product, tell them what kind of vacation they will be able to afford after making loads of cash by using the product.
All other things being equal, he who has the most copy usually wins the search engine placement war.
If you're not a natural-born writer, take the time to improve your skills. Study the writing of other experts, take a course about writing, and practice, practice, practice.
Eventually you will become such a good writer that brilliant copy will flow out of your keyboard with no effort at all. It will almost seem like someone else is doing the writing for you. At this point, you can start writing short reports, ebooks, even novels. Writing costs you nothing, but you can sell the finished result over and over again with virtually no duplication costs.
Your writing skills are a virtual goldmine waiting to be unearthed. Find the author inside you, and start profiting!
