Google has finally released a few improvements to the Gmail service.

You can download a small app that sits in your system tray and notifies you with a small message and sound clip whenever you have new mail.  Finally, no more clicking over to my Gmail browser window wondering if I had any new mail...

My favorite part of this tool is the "make Gmail your default mail app" setting.  Now when you click on any mailto: links on the web, the "compose new message" window for Gmail pops up instead of Outlook or whatever you were using previously.  Good stuff, and about time...
