Today is the 10th anniversary of the Debian Linux distribution. It's still my favorite, having started out with it back in '99. Now on version 3.0, Debian is solid, easy to use, and getting ever easier to install. It has served as a beacon of non-commerciality while being the backbone of several commercial distros.

While I can't make it to Chicago today, check out a birthday party near you!

While bargaining continues at Verizon, the east coast Baby Bell, these workers need your support. This is especially true if you live in the area served by Verizon, but anyone can help. The Communication Workers of America (CWA) has set up a site where you can get info and take action. Check out Fairness at Verizon. An injury to one is an injury to all! Big day today, we're going to Irish Fest! The 23rd annual event is the largest and best Irish music festival in North America, maybe even the world. While my favorite band, Black 47, won't be there this year (they came to Summerfest earlier), the talent lineup is still pretty excellent. On my radar today are Altan, Tommy Makem, Clumsy Lovers, Dublin City Ramblers and the McPeake Family (performing together for the first time in 30-some years). But topping the list is (are) the Afro Celts. This great fusion of West African and Celtic rhythms should be a great time live.

We may see some theater as well, and take a dance lesson. It's always a great day--and you can almost bet I'll want to come back tomorrow. Alas, there's no budget for that. Maybe next year.....
