For baseball fans, an interesting article in last week's New Yorker by Ben McGrath, "The Professor of Baseball: Is Bill James the Red Sox’secret weapon?." The article gives a fascinating and amusing look at the new-fangled use of statisticians in professional baseball, picking up on a theme mentioned in Moneyball.
