In a Toronto Star article, Nov. 24, 2003, A better way to ease traffic, John Cameron uses Anthony Yezer's  The Public Cost of Increased Commuting in Northern Virginia study and related arguments to make a case for increased use of telework in the Greater Toronto Area.

"Like mayors in many big U.S. cities, [new Toronto Mayor David Miller] should be encouraging commuters to telework from their communities, instead of driving into the city core every business day."

"Shifting more to telework won't magically dissolve traffic congestion altogether...But telework will ease the gridlock almost straight away. ...And we have the infrastructure in place — like some of the most sophisticated high-speed networks in the world — to implement a Toronto telework plan right now."

"Last year alone, traffic gridlock cost the [Greater Toronto Area] economy an estimated $3 billion in delays and health-related costs, including an abysmal 27 smog days in Toronto, according to a board of trade study."
