Service Oriented Architectures for integrated systems

The model that has been very popular in the last few years for developing ways to integrate systems in the criminal justice field has predominantly been based on tools that were created for Enterprise Application Integration in the commercial world.  The EAI vendors have been re-focussing their products on governmental applications such as criminal justice as their revenue stream from commercial applications diminished.  But now there are new companies and new offerings that are built around a service-oriented architecture rather than the EAI tools that have previously been applied to the justice integration effort.

Annraí O'Toole, CEO of Cape Clear Software, has published a clear and compelling argument for the application of a service-oriented architecture approach to business integration that explains why a web service approach is superior to more conventional approaches.
