"The only library in Wheeler County may have to close down after city budget cuts wiped out the entire $9,916 operating fund.
"'If (the) library closes permanently, Wheeler County will be the only county in the state of Oregon that doesn’t have a public library,' Oregon State Librarian Jim Scheppke told residents recently. 'You don’t want to be known for that.'
"At 300 square feet, the Fossil Public Library is the smallest library in Oregon."
