OK, guys. Now we can settle down and get on with our winter
activities. It was a nice ride, as long as it lasted, but it's
back to business as usual.
As reported last night, Dave Constantine won big at this year's Midwest
National Turkey Call Carving Competition. His decorative box call
won Best of Show in the Decorative Box Call division (Charley
Burke Award), First Best of Show over all, and the Gene Upward Award
(best decorative call). The box was carved from one piece of
yellow poplar, with an American cherry paddle, deer-antler peg and a
hand-carved scene of a whitetail does bedded in snow with a turkey tail
feather nearby. On the back of the ornately carved box is a
painted scene featuring a strutting gobbler. As soon as I can
figure out how to post a photo on this blog, I'll show you what his
winning call looked like. Meanwhile, check out his site for some
of his other decorative box calls. Best in the world, according to many collectors, and once again according to the judges at this year's competition.
Later...
