If you are a woodcock hunter, then you love thick alders, black dirt,
close-working dogs and open-bored shotguns that come up fast and shoot
where you look.
You also love the little bird that most people say is not worth the bother, but you and I know way better, right?
In his December column in Michigan Outdoor News, Steve Griffin tells
about a new group called Woodcock Limited, so called because its
founders voluntarily limit their kill of woodcock, while working toward
a better future for the bird. Focused on the Great Lakes region,
WL has among its board members, Steve Smith, publisher of Pointing Dog
Journal and John Bruggink, former USFWS woodcock biologist who now
teaches at Northern Michigan University. Annual membership dues
