Rebecca's Blog
Mostly news stories or articles of interest in the future to me. I'll eventually get around to adding my own ideas and stories on a more regular basis.

I love with newsgator that I can have it check whenever I want...I don't HAVE to wait for it to just happen once an hour.  I need to move all my subscriptions over.  Yay!

Steve Ballmer: "We have a lot of guys who are really smart about search."

Interesting words.  I think figuring out how people search is part computer/tech, part psychology, maybe even part anthropology.  ology.  Just throwing that one in for fun.

Albert Guinon: "There are people who, instead of listening to what is being said to them, are already listening to what they are going to say themselves."

I think this is something we've all experienced....and probably done a time or two.  Ever watched an argument where neither person seemed to hear the other because they were both too busy getting ready for what they were going to say next?  Painful.

FutureMe lets you address an email to yourself and set a date in the future to have it sent -- pass an email to yourself in ten years reminding yourself about your vow to never, ever drink peach schnapps again and see how well you're faring. Link (via Ambiguous)

What would you say to your future self?  What would you have said ten years ago?  I'm trying to remember my 16-year old self....it's pretty difficult.  You can do this without an e-mail if you just keep some records.  Files, e-mails, journals, blogs, whatever...

In my latest article for TheFeature.com, I report on the first baby steps toward "memory prosthetics," systems that could someday enable us to google our entire lives.
"Too often, our memories don't serve us well. We lose our keys. We forget names. As we age, the home movies that play in our heads begin to look like fifth generation VHS copies. But what if we could rewind to yesterday? Indeed, what if we could watch our entire lives flash before our eyes with the click of button? The possibility is not as far fetched as one might think."

Is this scary to anyone, but me?  This was this character from O.S. Card's Speaker for the Dead though that could replay things in his head.  While it'd be nice to relive good things, I'm afraid people would drive themselves crazy replaying the bad.

MagnetoidsI like to play with a hunk of Silly Putty while I procrastinate in front of the computer. But these Magnetoids look (and sound) really neat. Link (Thanks, Kent W!)

I totally want these if anyone is looking to buy me a present....
