Urban Educ8r: A Wickerblog
This weblog is dedicated primarily to the discussion of Education issues and policies, as well as to chronicling the author's experiences as an inner-city school teacher. These days, the education discussion is too much in the hands of ignorant politicians merely doing what they need to gain re-election, and not enough in the hands of knowledgable professionals with first hand experience.

Miracles of Small Class Size Unfold Each Day in California. It has been seven years since California passed a law limiting school class size, and to this day, teachers and parents remember it as a remarkable moment. By Michael Winerip. [New York Times: Education]

No commentary is needed to go with this posting. The testimonies speak for themselves. I will mention that I had a sixth-grade language arts class with 36 kids for my first teaching experience. It was nuts! What a world of difference smaller classes make on the progress and growth of the students. Far more important than "standards-based curriculum" and the latest teaching methods. Those things are valuable, but are secondary.
