Congress Tackles Football's Bowl Series
By ROBERT GEHRKE, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - War and taxes made room for college football at the Capitol on Wednesday, as senators discussed whether the national championship bowls unfairly favor big-conference teams while leaving the Horned Frogs and Green Waves of the football world on the sidelines.
While it certainly encourages me to hear our legislators speaking out for democracy in favor of big-money elitism, it disturbs me that some members of the Congress appear oblivious to the fact that they have hundreds of far more important issues to deal with. Now, I am a college football fan, and as a teacher & coach, support school athletics, and of course, fairness therein, but for God's sake... Iraq, the environment, the economy, generally running the country? Hello? Can you say...priorities?
