The New York Times is encouraging the Congress and Bush administration to make tangible progress on Immigration Reform this year by passing a couple bills already on the table which would 1) give agricultural workers already working here a shot at gaining legal status, and 2) "allow illegal immigrants' children who have grown up in this country to pay in-state college tuition rates and earn a path to citizenship." These would be two sensible bills. Bush ran on immigration reform which, due to Septemper 11th, has not happened. It is time to bring it back to the table. These bills, the article reports, have support from both parties. I say go for it. These laborers are at the heart of our economy, and these students are our future. Let us reward them, and benefit ourselves, by granting them the something they have certainly earned.
